RWANDA & UGANDA PRIMATES

8-Day Group Safari including Chimp and Gorilla Trekking

Can’t decide whether to track primates in Rwanda or Uganda? Easy—just do both on this fantastic group safari! After tracking chimpanzees in Kibale National Park in Uganda, visit Queen Elizabeth National Park for breathtaking scenery, game viewing, and a scenic boat cruise. Then, continue to Volcanoes National Park and enjoy trekking the Golden Monkeys and Mountain Gorillas!

Safari Itinerary

DAY 1 – ARRIVE/ENTEBBE, UGANDA Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport you will be met by a representative and transferred to Cassia Lodge (approx. 45 min drive) located on Buziga Hill.  Overnight here.  Dinner on your own account.

DAY 2 – KIBALE NATIONAL PARK: After breakfast, meet your guide and transfer to Kibale National park, (approx. 6 hrs  drive), passing through  traditional Ugandan villages, en-route, you are able to see people at work tending their crops with lunch en-route.  Overnight Primate Lodge (B, L, D)

DAY 3 – KIBALE NATIONAL PARK/QUEEN ELIZABETH PARK: After breakfast transfer to Kanyanchu Park Headquarters for a briefing of the chimpanzee tracking [permit at an additional cost] and later enter the forest to search for the man’s closest friend. The incredibly diverse forest is home to over 13 species of primates including red Colobus monkey, the rare L’Hoest, blue monkey, grey mangabey, black faced vervet monkeys, baboons and also bush babies. After lunch at the lodge, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park. This will be an interesting 3-hour drive with excellent views of Rwenzori mountains en-route.  Overnight Mweya Safari Lodge. DAY 4 – QUEEN ELIZABETH PARK: Early morning rise with tea/coffee and snacks and have a morning game drive in the wilds of Queen Elizabeth National park which is globally famous for featuring four of the big 5, its diverse bird species as well as other flora and fauna. After lunch, enjoy a unique 2 hour boat cruise on the Kazinga channel that joins Lake Edward to Lake George and also famous for the highest concentration of hippos in Africa.  Overnight Mweya Safari Lodge (B, L, D)

DAY 5 – MUSANZA, RWANDA: After breakfast you’ll drive to the Uganda/Rwanda border (approx.8 hrs drive). After clearing custom and immigration formalities you will be met and transferred to Mountain Gorilla View Lodge. (B, L, D)

DAY 6 – VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK: After an early breakfast, drive to the Volcanoes National Park HQs where you will be allocated a Golden Monkeys tracking group [permit at an additional cost]. Briefing by your trackers then drive to the trail head for the tracking. In the afternoon, you tour to the nearby ex-poacher’s village.  Overnight Mountain Gorilla View Lodge. (B, L, D)

DAY 7 – VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK/LAKE KIVU: Gorilla trekking day! [permit at an additional cost]. After an early breakfast, drive to the Volcanoes National Park to be allocated a gorilla tracking group. Briefing by your trackers then drive to the trail head for the start of an amazing adventure.  Afterwards you will drive 1 hour to Rubavu along the shores of the Lake Kivu.  Lunch and overnight Lake Kivu Serena Hotel. (B, L, D)

DAY 8 – DEPART: After breakfast, you will drive to Kigali and be transferred to the airport for your departure flight. (B)

One hour is permitted with the chimps and gorillas per trek. Permits are subject to availability.
Trekking through the forest can be steep, wet and slippery.
