Wine Review: 2003 Goat-Roti

November 18, 2011  By: Gretchen

We keep finding lovely, old South African wines in our basement (lucky us!).  It’s such a treat when you tuck something away and come upon it some years later to enjoy!  The 2003 Goat-Roti from the Goats-Do-Roam Wine Company is an inky, dark wine with ripe, berry aromas and a hint of smoke that you find in pinotage.  It is full flavored and pairs wonderfully with grilled or roasted meats.  We had it with a bison New York strip and it fit the bill perfectly.  The blend  of this wine changes annually; the winemaker indicates that the ’03 is a blend of 85% Syrah, 12% Mourvèdre and 3% Viognier.  Definitely worth picking up if you come across it!
