Profile: The Peech Hotel

One of our favorite boutique properties in Johannesburg, South Africa, the Peech Hotel was originally a private residence. When discovered by James Peech, the property had been in one family’s hands for over 40 years.  It’s comfortable and modern, and is an easy car ride to shopping and dining, though their restaurant serves wonderful food.

The Peech has sixteen bedrooms and suites located in the main house and garden annexes.

  • The Garden rooms overlook the lush landscaped gardens. Each annex has four rooms which have been designed with separate work and relaxation areas and a private patio or balcony.
  • House rooms were originally bedrooms in the old residence of the property; these rooms have recently been renovated and are the hotel’s ‘chicest’ offerings. Room two has a separate room which is ideal for extra children or as a work space.
  • Garden suites are the largest rooms at 650 square feet. They feature over-size bathrooms and an open-plan bedroom & living space. Designed to allow simultaneous sharing of work and relaxation spaces, the rooms have a hanging pod chair with views over their private patio or garden.

Another reason we love The Peech is that it is a ‘Fair Trade in Tourism’ certified hotel. This acknowledges establishments that adhere to specific criteria including fair wages and working conditions, fair distribution of benefits, ethical business practice, and respect for human rights, culture and the environment.  Additionally, The Peech works to give back to its community, as well as to reduce its footprint on the Earth with a sustainability policy that is centered on recycling, energy conservation and green design. They have implemented a range of measures, some hi-impact like installing solar water heaters throughout the hotel; while others are low-impact such as using rechargeable batteries.   All of this combined with the charm and comfort of the hotel makes for a feel-good stay!
