We have a few fun events coming up on the calendar that we’d like to share with you.
First up is AfricAid’s Art and Soul on October 4th at Denver’s Redline Gallery. Africa Adventure Consultants helps to sponsor this wonderful event that benefits and celebrates girls’ leadership and education in Tanzania. Many of the AAC staff will be at the event, which starts at 6 pm. There will be delicious African-themed food and drink, entertainment, and both silent and live auctions. This beautiful pencil art from Tanzania and many other local and African art will be included in the silent auction. We hope to see you there!
Later in October, we’re excited to see “An Ethiopian Odyssey: A Celebration of Landscape, Culture and Art,” an art gallery and auction event to benefit Ethiopia Reads on Wednesday, October 22, from 5 to 7:30 PM at the Blair Caldwell African-American Research Library. For more information on Ethiopia Reads, visit www.ethiopiareads.org.
Recently, four artists—two Ethiopian and two American—traveled throughout Ethiopia on a journey to capture the beauty of the landscape and culture of the country. The event will feature the works by these artists as well as several local Denver artists with Ethiopian ties. Proceeds from the event will benefit Ethiopia Reads, which promotes literacy in Ethiopia by creating schools and libraries. Ethiopia Reads has planted more than 60 libraries in Ethiopia, touching the lives of more than 120,000 children.
The art donated to Ethiopia Reads will be traveling to three American cities for exhibits, and Denver will be the first to host. The artwork will be on display during the month of October at the library, located in the historic Five Points neighborhood at 2401 Welton Street in Denver.
