After many hours on a plane and several more waiting in Seattle and Amsterdam, I finally arrived in Nairobi. I was met by my safari guide and off to the Sankara Nairobi Hotel we went. Sankara Hotel is a 5 star business hotel just outside of Nairobi city center. It was a late arrival into Nairobi and I fell fast asleep in my nice, comfy king-side bed.
The next morning, after an amazing breakfast, I was off to David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust for the 11:00 am feeding. David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is home to abandoned baby elephants and rhinos. It you are interested in foster a baby elephant, I recommend you visit their website to learn more. Then on your next visit you can visit the elephant orphanage for the evening feeding and a chance to meet and feed your elephant. While I have seen my share of elephants in the wild, my dream has always been to hug a baby elephant. While my dream did not come true, I did get to pet many of the orphaned elephants, watch them roll in mud puddles and cover themselves in dirt, and feed themselves with bottles. I could not have asked for a better day!!
Following the visit, I headed off to the Carnivore Restaurant, just a few miles away. This is not a restaurant for vegetarians. Meat served on large skewers with a big knife was what was for lunch and it was delicious!
I could not have asked for a better day to start falling in love Kenya. I can’t wait to see what Samburu has in store … #whyilovekenya
