TOP FIVE SIGHTINGS STILL TO COME IN 2015
THERE’S STILL TIME TO ENJOY AFRICA IN 2015! DON’T MISS OUT ON THESE SPECIAL SIGHTINGS BEFORE YEAR-END.
1. The Great Migration
Many have heard of the Great Migration, but some think it is an annual event. It is actually perpetual. The animals are constantly on the move, following the life-giving rains and the sweet grasses that follow in their wake. One of the best ways to see the Migration is to stay in a mobile camp. It can give a traveler one of the best opportunities to witness the millions of wildebeest and zebra moving along the Serengeti plains. Our Tanzania Migration Safari visits a mobile camp and it just happens to be on sale for travel through the end of the year!
2. A Visit to Devil’s Pool
A visit to a place called the ‘Devil’s Pool’ seems right for October, doesn’t it? This natural formation at the very edge of the Victoria Falls (one of the world’s natural wonders!) allows brave visitors to experience the ultimate infinity pool, but only at certain times of the year. The dry season lasts from around September to December, so it’s a short window for this extraordinary experience. You really have to see it to believe it! Are you ready to take the plunge?
3. Bird Migrations
The bird life in Africa is good year-round, but at its best in the wet season. It’s during these special times that the migratory birds from Europe and Northern Africa are prolific, and many resident bird species are nesting and in their most beautiful breeding plumage. At this time, many resident bird species are nesting and in their most beautiful breeding plumage. Rains are mostly short showers in the afternoon and provide dramatic skies for photography.
4. Babies and Predators – There is Such a Thing as a Free Lunch
Between now and the end of the year, many mammal species will have their babies because food and water are abundant, giving their young the best chance of surviving. This also means that predator activity picks up, which can make for an especially exciting safari (‘easy pickings’ say the big cats).
5. Photos, photos, photos!
We’re headed into an amazing time of year for photography. During the wetter months, the animals are well fed and healthy; their coats are lush and they are looking their best. The vegetation is beautiful, with vibrant colors and blooming flowers. Best of all are Africa’s storms – the towering clouds racing across the vast skies make for incredible photos. There’s no better backdrop for your still shots of African wildlife!
