Discover the beauty of the green season!

The Circle of Life, Elton John

The title track from Disney classic “The Lion King” reminds us that summer brings new animals into the world. Many animals ‘drop’ their young in the late spring or early summer, giving them the best chance of survival during the season of abundance. And who doesn’t like baby animals or the Lion king!?

I like to Move It, from the Motion Picture Madagascar

Anyone that has ever watched the movie Madagascar ended up with this catchy tune stuck in their head but for the green season this song reminds us of all the animals, in happy moods, dancing through the tall grasses. The green season means abundant vegetation and food for grazers and browsers. It’s lovely to see their full bellies and rich, shiny coats as they move through the bush. As those animals succeed, so do predators, using the lush vegetation to conceal their whereabouts until the last second.

The Sound of Silence, Simon & Garfunkel

Hear that? That odd absence of noise is what happens when you travel to an incredible location devoid of other travelers. Of course, it isn’t really silent, but what you are left with are the natural sounds of Africa – birds, water, breezes, and the leopards and lions silently stalking their well fed prey. This means more privacy at sightings, fewer people at camps and more personalized attention. Service at our preferred camps and lodges is always amazing, but imagine having it nearly all to yourself!

The Lion Sleeps Tonight, The Tokens

You are going to sleep soundly knowing that you got the absolute best travel value on the planet. Dare we say it, like a well fed lion snoozing in the afternoon sun. Green season value is not to be missed! You get incredible exclusivity and a full-on safari experience without the price tag to match. As an added bonus, airfare tends to be less expensive during these months.

Isimanga Sikathekwane (The Wonder of the Hammerhead Bird), Ladismith Black Mambazo

We aren’t professional twitchers, but the birdlife during the green season is absolutely amazing! The diversity and volume of avian activity keeps our eyes up in the trees looking for the kaleidoscope of color that’s sure to greet us.

I Turn My Camera On, Spoon

Get your camera ready! The green season and the lush vegetation that comes with it makes a stunning backdrop for wildlife and landscape photography. The air is also clearer, meaning sharper images. It is the season for photographers!

After the Storm, Mumford and Sons

Days are beautiful and warm with the occasional shower to cool off (and those occasional stormy skies also make a great backdrop for photos!).

Under African Skies, Paul Simon

When we start to get tired of being stuck indoors during winter’s short days and cold weather, we begin longing for Africa. There’s no better way to beat the winter blues than to head to the Southern Hemisphere!

BONUS: Africa, Toto

No playlist about Africa is complete without Toto’s recognizable song!
