AAC Coronavirus Update

Africa Adventure Consultants Coronavirus Update

Updated October 21, 2020

The coronavirus COVID-19 crisis is having a significant impact on travel around the world with the situation changing daily. Africa Adventure Consultants (AAC) continues to monitor events and advise and assist our guests accordingly. To that end, we recommend new and existing customers use this three-step process when evaluating your travel to Africa and beyond:

1. Get informed:

We recommend you get your information from expert sources. The CDC and WHO will have the latest and most accurate information on global locations that have reported cases of COVID-19, provide a current summary of the situation, answer frequently asked questions and more. For specific travel advice for other countries, please visit that country’s destination page on the CDC website.

Country closure and travel advisory information can be found on the US State Department travel site. And, please call an AAC Journey Specialist to find out the latest info on country and accommodation closures. We may also have helpful information on airline flight cancellations and policies.

2. Bookings for 2020 and beyond

Confirmed bookings through December 31, 2020: For guests concerned about traveling in 2020 or those who have confirmed trips to closed countries, we recommend postponing travel to 2021 or beyond. Most of our partners have relaxed terms and conditions temporarily to allow for postponements of up to 12 months, some even longer. NOTE: Guests can usually only postpone one time and new cancellation terms will apply on delayed safaris. Click here to read AAC’s updated terms & conditions for postponed trips.

New bookings: For those comfortable traveling now, many of our destination countries have re-opened! The list of currently open destinations to US travelers includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Maldives, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. We expect that other countries such as Botswana, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles and South Africa will follow suit in short order. Check back regularly for info on more country openings.

And, while it might appear to be counter intuitive, now is a great time to book travel for 2021 and beyond. Space is filling up fast for 2021 (due in part to large numbers of postponements) and in many cases, we can offer relaxed terms and conditions that enable travelers to confirm now with low deposits and change later with little if any penalty – click here for more information.

3. Consider ‘Cancel for Any Reason’ coverage on your travel insurance policy

We strongly recommend travel insurance for all our travelers and have done so since our company’s inception. It’s an incremental cost that provides considerable peace of mind and can be an incredible help when an airline has lost luggage, a flight has been canceled for a covered reason or an unexpected medical issue arises. While we are not aware of any standard travel insurance policies that cover cancellations due to coronavirus, fear of travel or canceled flights due to coronavirus, we do think current and new clients should consider the other benefits.

For new bookings, travelers can consider purchasing ‘Cancel for Any Reason’ coverage from Travel Guard. Plans are available in some states and do offer the freedom to change your plans up to 48 hours from your scheduled departure date. Note that this plan upgrade comes with a higher premium and lower payout for trips up to $25,000, and must be purchased within 15 days of the initial deposit. Contact us to discuss what travel insurance plan might be right for you.

Additional Assistance

We are pleased to now offer additional support for our travelers to assist with COVID-19 testing before departure. All travelers who book a safari with us will receive $100 per person to apply towards COVID-19 testing*.

*$100 credit per person applied to final balance for all safaris priced at $5,000 per person or higher. Valid for new bookings only who confirm on or after October 15, 2020.
