Top 5 Honeymoon & Romance Experiences in Tanzania

November 30, 2020  By: Beth

Tanzania is one of our favorite honeymoon destinations. It has so much to offer, from Kilimanjaro climbs for active honeymooners to safaris in tented camps for adventurous couples who want to be close to nature. Tanzania is also home to some iconic luxury safari lodges and tented camps for couples looking for an upscale, insta-worthy experience. And of course, there are pristine beaches off the coast for some rest and relaxation.

Here are our top five recommendations of experiences to include during your Tanzania honeymoon:

1. Spend a Few Nights in a Mobile Tented Camp

There is nothing more romantic than sleeping under canvas in the middle of open wilderness. Cuddle up next to your sweetheart as you doze off to the sounds of lions roaring in the distance or the pitter patter of raindrops on the canvas roof. Mobile tented camps in the Serengeti like Serengeti Safari Camp are such a quintessential Tanzanian experience as they move across the plains with the Great Migration! Consider pairing your tented camp experience with a stay at one of the other unique accommodations the country has to offer. One of our favorites is Tarangire Treetops. Stay in a private suite overlooking the baobab and marula trees, enjoying your coffee or cocktail from your balcony. Another favorite is The Highlands, located high on the slopes of the Olmoti Crater. Each domed suite has its own wood-burning fireplace, the perfect spot to cuddle up with your new spouse to enjoy the sweeping views.

2. Take a Hot Air Balloon Ride Over the Serengeti

Wake up early to board a hot air balloon for a spectacular ride over the Serengeti. You will be able to see the landscape from a completely different perspective and see wildlife you may not normally see since you are flying over them. After you land, toast to your new marriage with champagne before heading back to camp. Private hot air balloon rides are also available for those who want even more exclusivity.

3. Enjoy a Day Relaxing at the Spa

Planning a wedding can be stressful! Take advantage of your days on safari by saving time for the spa. Many safari camps offer spa services in camp, so you can add in a massage between your morning and afternoon game drives. Or, take it up a notch by scheduling a day of relaxation with a full day of spa services. For honeymooners, we recommend adding some time at the beach to your East African safari. Baraza Resort & Spa is an award-winning resort with a top-notch spa. Spend your day enjoying a couple’s massage, the Sultans bath – their signature treatment for two, indoor and outdoor relaxation rooms and a lap pool with underwater music.

4. Opt for Romance While You Dine

A Tanzania safari offers many opportunities for private and romantic dinners. Enjoy breakfast in the bush after your early morning game drive. Toast to your Big 5 wildlife sightings with sparkling wine or a gin & tonic and small bites during your evening sundowner. Choose to dine alone by candlelight in or near your safari camp. Private dining at many safari camps is now encouraged, offering you more opportunities to social distance and spend time alone with your new spouse.

Maasai wedding celebration

5. Celebrate Like the Maasai

Did you have to change or cancel your wedding plans? Are you looking for a unique way to celebrate your marriage or anniversary? Talk to a Journey Specialist about arranging a traditional Maasai wedding celebration during your safari. The Maasai are some of the most traditional and interesting tribes in Africa and they like nothing more than a good celebration. Enjoy singing, dancing and a traditional barbecue in a uniquely East African way. Private photographers can also be arranged to capture this once-in-a-lifetime celebration.
