South African ‘Work Safari’

October 25, 2022  By: Gretchen

Kelcey and her husband Jeff traveled to South Africa with Africa Adventure Consultants earlier this year. Gorgeous accommodations, seeing all their wish list wildlife species, fantastic guides and wonderful food made for an unforgettable trip!

Kelcey H. works in wine sales and when she had a work trip to wine country in South Africa scheduled, she and Jeff decided to make the most of it and extended their trip to include a safari. The Africa Adventure Consultants team planned a safari getaway for the couple and provided extensive suggestions for their time in Cape Town, including some AAC favorite restaurants and bars.

“We had a lot of our Cape Town part of the trip pre-planned through work, but Angie gave us some great recommendations for restaurants and places to get drinks and what sights to see. She recommended Pot Luck Club which was by far our favorite meal in the city! We also loved Asoka for its delicious tapas.” - Kelcey H

Kelcey felt that AAC did a great job of explaining what to expect while on safari as well as finding the lodge and experience that fit their travel style the best. On safari, she and Jeff saw all the animals they hoped to see, including leopard, lions, hyenas, elephants, giraffes, rhinos and hippos. They were surprised and thrilled with how close they were able to get to the wildlife while on safari.

One memorable sighting happened their very first morning on safari when they saw a lone male lion that had taken down a kudu on his own earlier in the morning surrounded by 16 hyenas trying to take the kill away!

“We were able to get so close to the wildlife and saw everything we wanted to and more. The perfect balance of adventure and relaxation...it was unforgettable!” - Kelcey H
Makanyi Private Game Lodge

Kelcey and Jeff stayed at Makanyi Private Game Lodge which is situated in the private Timbavati Game Reserve on the western edge of South Africa’s Kruger National Park. With just eight luxury suites, Makanyi has a very exclusive feel while enjoying one of Africa’s best game viewing destinations. They were thrilled with the lodge, as well as with the lodge staff and their guides, who have a huge impact on the overall safari experience.

“Makanyi Private Game Lodge was perfect! The lodge itself was gorgeous and the staff were top notch... Carl and Themba were such a wonderful guide/tracker duo we can't recommend them highly enough. Carl was so entertaining and knowledgeable I felt like we left each drive having learned (and seen) so much. They always had a great attitude and were so much fun.” - Kelcey H.

Kelcey and Jeff had always wanted to go on a safari trip as a bucket list item. They are so happy they decided to extend her work trip to South Africa to experience safari. She has this advice for other travelers:

“If you're thinking about visiting, and you are able to go, don't hesitate! It has always been a bucket list trip that I thought may only happen once but now I can't wait to return... Working with Angie really took the stress out of planning, and I don't think we could have ever found what we were looking for without her. I will definitely be recommending Africa Adventure Consultants to anyone I know traveling to Africa and we look forward to working with them again in the future!” - Kelcey H
