Africa offers an incredible range of travel experiences, and it makes a great choice for memorable holiday season travel for those who plan in advance. From the vast savannas of Kenya and Tanzania teeming with wildlife to vibrant urban destinations in South Africa, Africa offers unique adventures and amazing natural beauty. Beach lovers can soak up the sun in myriad stunning island and shoreline locales, while those seeking historical intrigue can explore the ancient wonders of Egypt. Whether it’s experiencing world-class dining and wines, witnessing cultural celebrations, exploring UNESCO heritage sites or embarking on thrilling safaris, Africa’s diverse destinations promise a holiday season filled with unforgettable moments. Here are some of AAC’s top places to visit across the continent for the 2025 holiday season.
South Africa’s Western Cape Province is popular for a reason and is the perfect holiday destination for a cosmopolitan retreat. The weather is lovely – these are South Africa’s summer months – and Cape Town, the Winelands and the scenic and wonderful Garden Route are full of ‘festive season’ energy. Travelers can enjoy beautiful scenery, incredible dining and award-winning wines throughout the Western Cape. Pristine beaches, wildlife ranging from ostriches and penguins to baboons and antelope, soaring peaks and gently rolling plains await, along with charming villages and towns, friendly locals and endless adventures!
Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park has something to offer year-round, but for the holidays, we prefer southern Serengeti. In November, the short rains typically begin and East Africa’s Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra start their journey southward in the quest to find fresh, green grasses. Brief rainstorms refresh the air and earth, providing for dramatic skies and stunning light for photography. In December the short rains continue, creating a feast for the migratory animals, as well as resident predators.
For many, the holiday season is a time to escape to fun-in-the-sun destinations and Africa has a wealth of beach destinations to consider. From the exotic alleyways of Stone Town and far-flung islands of Pemba and Mafia to exclusive retreats in Seychelles, Mozambique and Madagascar, Africa’s beaches beckon. You can find accommodations fit for a sultan, barefoot paradises, warm and interesting cultures and water activities of all kinds. Swim with whale sharks, scuba on pristine reefs, dine on the freshest seafood and make magical holiday memories in Africa’s beach destinations!
Egypt’s history and well-preserved monuments makes it a sought-after destination. Exploring the pyramids in Giza, cruising on the Nile and delving into ancient tombs make for incredible adventures reminiscent of the movies. The holiday season brings mild weather along with colorful cultural and religious celebrations. An Egyptian journey takes travelers back in time – tracing the country’s rich history from its roots to the modern era – while taking in incredible antiquities and monuments and immersing in its incredible culture.
Victoria Falls is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and deserves a stop on any safari to Southern Africa. The holiday season is a great time to visit with lodges and hotels sparkling with seasonal décor while the flow of the falls is building from rains falling further north. All of the usual adrenaline activities are on offer as are relaxing boat cruises, delicious meals, spa treatments and other ways to wind down the year. It’s great in combination with parks and reserves in Botswana and Zimbabwe where you can enjoy a green season safari – one where the landscapes are verdant and wildlife is thriving because of the abundant food and water available.
A trip to Africa is an amazing way to make holiday memories. Its natural and cultural wonders add to the richness of the season, while getting away removes seasonal stress. Remember that mid- to late December is one of Africa’s peak travel seasons – if you wish to travel over the holidays, contact your Journey Specialist now as it’s best to book 12 to 24 months in advance.
