Traveler’s Corner: A Luxurious African Adventure

April 28, 2025  By: Gretchen

AAC travelers Mike and Susan recently traveled to Rwanda and South Africa with Africa Adventure Consultants. This was Mike’s second time traveling with AAC. They were excited to embark on an adventurous and luxurious trip together! They enjoyed primate trekking – mountain gorillas and golden monkeys – in Rwanda’s Virunga Mountains followed by time in Cape Town for city adventures and an underwater safari, ending in the renowned Sabi Sand Nature Reserve to see some of South Africa’s famed wildlife.

“It was all completely and remarkably outstanding! If I had to name my top four, it would be spending time with the gorillas, snorkeling in the kelp forest, taking outdoor showers at Dulini Moya and sightseeing on the safaris in Sabi Sand. I greatly miss my morning cappuccino wakeup call delivered to my room, my turn down service along with a fire built in our fireplace, the outstanding food and in-room couples massage at Amakoro.” - Susan

Not content to stop at her top five safari highlights, Susan also raved about her private birdwatching tour, her enjoyment of sundowner drink stops on safari, how she loved seeing the hippos wrestling in the pond, observing baby lion cubs and also seeing a baby gorilla nursing.

Other wildlife highlights that Mike and Susan saw on their adventures included golden monkeys, birds, buffaloes, , giraffes, hippos, rhinos, lions, leopards, elephants, hyenas, crocodiles, baboons, vultures, owls, impalas, penguins, an octopus, hyraxes and seals. “So much I can’t remember it all!”

Susan and Mike were impressed by their guides and lodge staff members, as well as the personalized service they received throughout their trip. “I would like to give every person that we encountered special recognition. It far exceeded any hospitality I have had here in the US. I’d also like to give special recognition to Tim, our guide at Dulini Moya.”

They also loved their food and accommodations. “They were all three better than any 5-star experience in the States.” Susan even mentioned her delight at the coffees served at the lodges – from iced coffee at Dulini to cappuccinos in the mornings. It’s notable that even the simplest things on safari can bring such pleasure!

Mike and Susan rated their experience working with AAC and their overall safari experience as excellent. They were happy to have been able to work with us to choose a safari reserve that was private and respectful of conservation.
