Exploring Ecuador

April 8, 2019  By: Gretchen

We love the Galapagos Islands for the incredible wildlife experience, but there’s more to Ecuador than the Galapagos! Whether you are looking for a taste of Ecuador’s mainland on your Galapagos adventure, or you would like to get to know Ecuador well, we can help.

Ecuador may be small, but it’s big on natural and cultural wonders. If you have a few days to spare on a Galapagos visit, consider adding a visit to a hacienda (estate) where you can explore wild Andean valleys on horseback, bicycle or by hiking. After burning some calories, you could take a traditional cooking class using locally sourced ingredients, then try your luck at spotting an Andean condor soaring over the hills in the wild. Cozy up by the fire for a nightcap before settling in for a night’s rest to prepare you for the next day’s adventures.

You could also visit the Amazon rainforest with its incredible wildlife, including rare and exotic animals like jaguars, puma, sloths, and capybaras. Your days will be filled with explorations both on the ground and in the rainforest canopy, while evenings will give you a chance to refuel and share stories.

Ecuador’s Pacific Coast has many temptations as well. From a cosmopolitan city to genteel haciendas, relaxed and luxurious beach retreats to the coast’s own ‘little Galapagos,’ there’s plenty to tempt travelers.

Our Explore Ecuador trip encompasses much of the above, giving you a chance to discover much of what makes the country so special. You’ll sample one of its most important exports – chocolate, learn from its artisans, hike its breathtaking hills, enjoy time at a beautiful hacienda and explore the Amazon.
