Itinerary
Day 1 – Kruger National Park: Upon arrival at Johannesburg, you’ll be assisted to your light aircraft transfer to Jock Safari Lodge, Savanna Lodge or Lion Sands Ivory Lodge. (D)
VALUE – Kruger National Park: Jock Safari Lodge is one of the first privately owned lodges to be set in the heart of the Kruger National Park. Accommodation is in twelve air-conditioned luxury suites each with an en suite bathroom, small lounge, outdoor shower, private plunge pool and terrace with a private ‘Sala’ (outdoor lounge) that overlooks the river. Walking and birding safaris are also offered as well as guided historical tours.
DELUXE – Sabi Sand Reserve: Savanna Lodge is situated in the western sector of the game-rich Sabi Sand Reserve, bordering the Kruger National Park. Each suite has its own indigenous garden area, private veranda, air-conditioning, plus en suite bathrooms. Guests enjoy a traditional meal in the open air “boma” which overlooks a floodlit waterhole. Savanna has traversing rights to over 38 square miles of bushveld. Daily trips to a Shangaan Village are also offered for an additional cost. Local drinks included.
LUXURY – Lion Sands Ivory Lodge: Located in a private game reserve bordering Kruger National Park, this lodge is one of four luxurious properties in the reserve. Each of the six luxury suites functions as a private villa – exquisitely simple yet sophisticated in décor. A rim-flow pool, wooden deck, private lounge, and voluminous bedroom with open-plan bathroom all afford the best seats in the house to the view of the natural verdant landscape along the bank of the Sabi River.
Days 2 & 3 – Kruger National Park: Enjoy two full days of safari activities including morning and evening game drives exploring Kruger National Park or the Sabi Sand Reserve. Meals and overnights at your lodge. (B, L, D)
Kruger National Park: The park consists of nearly 8,000 square miles of unrivaled diversity of life forms fused with historical and archaeological sites – this is real Africa. This world-renowned national park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. Truly the flagship of the South African national parks, Kruger is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals.
Sabi Sand Reserve: The oldest private reserve in South Africa, on the border of the Kruger Park, the Sabi Sand Reserve was created in 1934, and became a formal association in 1948. It is a 251-square mile reserve, made up of a patchwork of private estates. ‘Big 5’ sightings are so frequent, it is not unusual to see lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino in a single game drive.
Day 4 – Kruger/Depart: Enjoy your last morning on safari. You will be transferred to the local airport for your light aircraft transfer to Johannesburg for your onward flights. (B)
Optional – Sabi Sand Treehouse: Add a night at Chalkley Treehouse, or Kingston Treehouse: Pack an overnight bag with your essentials, while leaving your other belongings back in your room at camp. The treehouses at Sabi Sand are for the hopeless romantic (ideal as a wedding or anniversary treat), the adventurer, the person who needs a complete disconnect and digital detox, or the wildlife enthusiast who prefers the bush au-natural (additional fee). All of the treehouses are securely constructed above the ground, where animals will remain at a safe and comfortable distance. Our field guide will provide a full orientation when he drops guests off before sunset and will remain on call via the radio left behind until it is time to leave the following morning after sunrise and a good cup of coffee!
