9-Day Flying Safari to Lewa, Loisaba & Masai Mara

See three of the richest private game reserves in Kenya on this exciting flying safari. Begin your journey in Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, flanked by Mt. Kenya to the south and the arid lowlands to the north. It is here where you will have your best chance to see endangered black rhinos. Then journey to the Laikipia region, home to rich game viewing and interactions with the Samburu people. You’ll also spend one night in the ‘biggest bedroom in the world’ – the African sky. Finally, you’ll revel in a “Big 5” Masai Mara safari in the heart of the African bush.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive Nairobi/Lewa Wildlife Conservancy: Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Nairobi), you will transfer to Wilson Airport to connect with your scheduled flight to Lewa. Dinner and overnight at Lewa Wilderness. (Pre-night in Nairobi can be arranged at an additional cost).

Lewa Wilderness is one of Kenya’s original private safari experiences, situated on the edge of one of Kenya’s most private wildlife and environmental conservation projects. With just nine cottages, Lewa Wilderness provides a spacious yet personal experience. Each of the six hillside cottages has en suite facilities, a cozy sitting area and fireplace and a private outdoor veranda. Additionally, the lodge offers three garden rooms perfect for families with two en suite bedrooms joined by a sitting area with bar and fireplace.

Day 2 – Lewa Wildlife Conservancy: Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is home to about 10% of Kenya‘s black rhino population and the largest population of Grevy’s zebra in the world. Enjoy a full day of shared safari activities in Lewa Wilderness Conservancy. Activities include game drives, guided walks, swimming, horse or camel riding and cultural visits (some at an additional cost). Meals and overnight at Lewa Wilderness.

Day 3 – Lewa Wildlife Conservancy/Loisaba Conservancy: After breakfast, transfer to the local airstrip for your scheduled flight to Loisaba Conservancy. Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transfer to camp with game viewing en route. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon safari activity. Dinner and overnight at Loisaba Tented Camp.

Loisaba Tented Camp is situated on the beautiful Loisaba Conservancy in Laikipia. Perched on the edge of an escarpment, the camp is designed to capitalize on unhindered views across Laikipia’s mottled landscape all the way to Mt Kenya. All accommodations and main areas enjoy a breathtaking vantage point over an expansive panorama. The eight tent suites are adorned in chic Africana furniture with a modern European twist. The bathrooms are luxurious with double-basin vanity and solar-heated hot water cascading from a rainfall shower to deliver a revitalizing cleanse after an action-packed day.

Days 4 & 5 – Loisaba Conservancy: Enjoy two full days of safari activities in the Loisaba Conservancy, a functioning ranch and a success story of conservation. Home to elephant, a healthy population of lion, the rare wild dog and an abundance of other species, Loisaba is a prime example of successful collaboration between conservation, communities, ranching and tourism. There are myriad activities on offer, including day and night game drives, horseback riding, camel trekking, guided bush walks, fishing, mountain biking, cultural visits to Samburu villages and visits to the anti-poaching sniffer dogs. Spend one additional night at Loisaba Tented Camp and one night sleeping under the stars at Loisaba Star Beds with meals in camp.

Located just 15 minutes from Loisaba Tented Camp, the Loisaba Star Beds are a truly authentic and intimate African experience. Handcrafted four-poster wooden beds sit on raised wooden platforms jutting out from a thatched-roof accommodation and are rolled out each night for guests to sleep under the endless African sky.  Enjoy sweeping views over an undulating valley and a permanent waterhole, frequented by resident wildlife.

Day 6 – Mara Naboisho Conservancy: After breakfast, transfer to the local airstrip for your scheduled flight to the Mara Ol Seki airstrip. During certain months of the year, the Masai Mara is home to the wildebeest migration. Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transfer to camp with game viewing en route. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon safari activity. Dinner and overnight at Kicheche Valley.

Kicheche Valley, located in acacia woodlands in a secluded valley of the Naboisho Conservancy, is an intimate luxury tented camp. The six luxurious tents, built in a unique style incorporating high eco-standards, are set on platforms and provide the perfect base to see the stunning wildlife and wilderness.

Days 7 & 8 – Mara Naboisho Conservancy: Enjoy two day of shared safari activities in the Mara Naboisho Conservancy and greater Masai Mara area. Activities include day and night game drives, walking safaris, cultural and community visits, massages, yoga and hot air ballooning (some at additional fee). Meals and overnights at Kicheche Valley.

Day 9 – Mara Naboisho Conservancy/Depart: After a last game drive in the Mara region, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Nairobi. Upon arrival, a representative will meet and transfer you to your Nairobi hotel (booked separately) or to the international airport for your journey home
