9-day Wildlife & Cultural Safari Offering Fun for All
The Tanzania Family Safari lets families with children experience great game viewing, visit local tribes to learn about their culture and to have lots of fun. Customize your safari with accommodations that fit your style and budget.
Day 1 – Arusha: Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha, Tanzania, where you’ll be met and transferred to your accommodation for overnight.
Luxury – Legendary Lodge is located at the foothills of Mount Meru, on the outskirts of the bustling town of Arusha. This classic haven boasts lush tropical gardens and is surrounded by a working coffee farm. The 10 peaceful cottages feature intimate split-level living, king size beds with mosquito nets and all the comforts of a modern home, including satellite television, telephones, internet and a private bar.
Deluxe – Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge is set in lush gardens amid forest and crystal clear waters on the slopes of Mount Meru. The Lodge has been adapted from an early colonial farmhouse built in the early 20th century and it is one of the oldest family lodges in Arusha. It offers 10 garden rooms, two main house suites and a farm cottage with three bedrooms.
Day 2 – Manyara Ecosystem: After breakfast, drive to your first safari camp, arriving in time for lunch and an afternoon safari activity. You may enjoy an afternoon visit to a Maasai boma, take a mountain bike ride, enjoy a walking safari with a local ranger, swim in the pool or canoe in Lake Manyara, dependent on your accommodation selection. Dinner and overnight at your accommodation of choice.
Luxury – Chem Chem Lodge offers ultra-luxurious accommodation under the immense African skies. The spacious eight tent-style suites have comfortable beds, indoor and outdoor showers and private patios. A family unit is also available, with a full suite connected by a small wooden bridge to a vintage-style tented room with its own indoor and outdoor shower. It can sleep up to three children and two adults. Chem Chem welcomes children from 4 years old. They will create unforgettable memories by learning bush skills from Maasai warriors: how to make a fire, use a bow and arrow and throw a spear. A visit to local schools and villages will expose them to different cultures. Children can build a recyclable soccer ball, follow wildlife tracks and decorate safari-themed cupcakes.
Deluxe – Mpingo Ridge Lodge sits on top of an escarpment with sweeping views across the perennial Tarangire River. The 15 tented suites feature en suite bathrooms, private decks and sunken outside lounges that convert to afternoon siesta beds. One of the suites has two bedrooms, especially designed for friends and family traveling together. For kids under the age of 12, a range of wonderful opportunities to experience and enjoy the magic of the African bush are on offer. These activities are fun, educational and interesting, showing future generations the need for conservation of Africa’s wildlife, and keep kids well entertained while parents relax.
Day 3 – Tarangire: Enjoy a full day with a picnic lunch in Tarangire National Park, famed for its large elephant herds and huge baobab trees. Dinner and overnight at camp.
Day 4 – Mto Wa Mbu: Drive to Mto wa Mbu for a cultural walking tour, including sites such as a tannery, rice field, banana farm, local shops, church, school and local home. After a local lunch, continue to your selected accommodation.
Luxury –The Manor at Ngorongoro is a grand mansion that exudes old-world charm and is poised adjacent to the famous Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From November to June, chances are good that you’ll see part of the Great Wildebeest Migration (not guaranteed). Dinner and overnight at your selected accommodation.
Luxury – Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge is situated in the secluded western parts of the Serengeti National Park. Due to its far-flung location, there are very few lodges in this pristine section of the park, allowing for an intimate and exclusive Serengeti safari experience. Twice-daily game drives from the lodge often encounter large lion prides and clans of hyena, big herds of resident plains game as well as the special black-and-white colobus monkeys, found nowhere else in the Serengeti. There are nine luxury suites and one family suite, which boasts an interleading passage, an adult bedroom, en suite bathroom and a smaller children’s room. The guides and lodge team provide a host of fun and interactive children’s activities for families.
Deluxe – Serengeti Pioneer Camp is located in the Southern Serengeti (within the Moru Kopjes area). There are 12 tented suites, including one family suite. All have en suite facilities including a flushing toilet, vanity basin and showers and the tent interiors are designed to evoke the very best of an era long-gone but certainly not forgotten.

Safari activities include game drives, a visit to a large soda lake seasonally home to thousands of pink flamingo, viewing ancient Maasai rock paintings, swimming in the camp pool, a community visit, a guided nature walk, a hot air balloon safari, spa treatments, private yoga sessions and a day trip to Lake Victoria (activities dependent on accommodation and some at an additional cost). Meals and overnights at your selected accommodation.
