9-Day Safari to Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater & Serengeti
As the greatest movement of land animals anywhere in the world, the Great Wildebeest Migration is also one of the top natural wonders. This event can be witnessed in Northern Tanzania for much of the year and the Tanzania Migration Safari is centered around travelers discovering the majestic beauty and incredible concentrations of wildlife found only in this part of Africa. Over nine days visit some of the most famous national parks in all of Africa from Tarangire, to Ngorongoro Crater and of course the Serengeti.
Day 1 – Arrive/Arusha: On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and driven to Katambuga House or Hamerkop House for your overnight.
Deluxe: Katambuga House is an elegant and stylish eight-room lodge set on expansive grounds near Arusha. Casually elegant, the cozy main house features a selection of original photography and African art. The main house features four bedrooms, each with private bathroom. The adjacent two family cottages offer additional two interconnecting rooms each, all with private bathroom. Large king-size beds or twin queen-size beds are available.
Luxury: Hamerkop House is a private, 3 bedroom house located on a wildlife and golf estate situated halfway between Kilimanjaro International Airport and Arusha. Each en suite bedroom has a private veranda and lounge, complimentary Wi-Fi and private chefs to produce everything from delicious breakfasts to refreshing lunches, afternoon teas and dinners. Enjoy beautiful gardens to enjoy sundowner cocktails around the swimming pool.
Days 2 & 3 – Tarangire National Park: Transfer to Arusha Airport for your flight to Tarangire National Park, famous for its elephant herds and huge baobab trees. Upon arrival, transfer to camp with game viewing en route. Arrive at camp for lunch. Enjoy a shared afternoon game drive. On day 3, enjoy twice daily shared game drives in the park. Walking safaris and night game drives available (at an additional cost). Overnight at Honeyguide Tarangire Camp or Sanctuary Swala Camp.
Deluxe: Honeyguide Tarangire Camp is a deluxe tented safari camp with just ten spacious tents. The camp is set in a grove of umbrella thorn trees, with panoramic views. Each of the tented suites looks directly onto the plains, with a generous veranda allowing incredible game viewing.
Luxury: Sanctuary Swala Camp is located in an exceptionally private section of Tarangire National Park, offering visitors a luxurious and very exclusive safari experience. Each of the twelve luxurious canvas tents features a spacious open plan arrangement with comfortable king or twin beds, campaign chairs and plush sofas, as well as en suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor shower. Each tent has its own personal attendant who will attend to guests’ every need.
Days 4 & 5 – Ngorongoro Crater: Game drive to the local airstrip for your flight to Manyara Airstrip. Upon arrival, transfer to camp. Arrive at camp for lunch. Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure at camp, go on a nature walk, visit a nearby village or go on a cultural tour in the area. On day 5 drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and spend the day exploring the famous Ngorongoro Crater with a hot picnic lunch. This 100-square-mile caldera is home to more than 20,000 large mammals like lions, leopards, elephants, zebras, wildebeest and the rare black rhino. Overnight at Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp or Entamanu Ngorongoro Camp.
Deluxe: Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp is located in an acacia forest close to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. It is located next to the quiet Lemala crater access road on the north east side, allowing for a quick and easy drive down to the Crater floor. Guests can be down on the crater floor within 10-15 minutes, perfectly situated to capture early morning light ideal for photography. The camp has nine spacious tents with en-suite bathrooms.
Luxury: Entamanu Ngorongoro Camp is perched high on the side of the Ngorongoro Crater rim. The seven rooms, two of which are family units ideal for families with children, have textured wool, down duvets and heaters which provide warmth in the sleeping tents against the chilly nights, as well as fully openable fronts to let the breeze in when it warms up during the day. Big verandas wrap around the front of the rooms and are the ideal place to sit and marvel at the view. All of the rooms have views into the Crater, with immense Serengeti views to be enjoyed from the other side of camp. The interiors are of sustainably sourced wood and everything within the camp is locally sourced and made by talented Tanzanian artisans.
Days 6, 7, & 8 – Serengeti: Transfer to the local airstrip for your flight to Serengeti National Park. Upon arrival, transfer to camp with game viewing en route. Arrive at camp for lunch. Enjoy a shared afternoon game drive. On day 7 & 8, enjoy twice-daily shared game drives in the park. Overnight at Serengeti Safari Camp or Mila Tented Camp.
Deluxe: Serengeti Safari Camp follows the migration as it travels across the Serengeti, offering guests year-round access to this incredible spectacle. This small and intimate camp offers six safari tents, including one family unit. Each tent has comfortable beds, an outdoor seating area, hot bucket shower and flush toilet. The camp moves every couple months to follow the herds (not during your stay) so, dependent on exact migration movement, the camp will likely be in the Western Serengeti from April to July, the Northern Serengeti from August to November and the Southern Serengeti from December to March.
Luxury: Mila Tented Camp has just six tents, including one family tent. Each tent is nestled beneath a canopy of acacia trees and boast prime settings overlooking expansive wilderness. Décor at Mila draws inspiration from local tribes and the yellow-gold grasses of the Serengeti, the color of which is reflected in the linens and textiles, with gentle nature-inspired colors blending into the landscape. With Mila as your base, explore the terrains of the western Serengeti, ranging from wide open grassy savannas to acacia-strewn forests near the Grumeti River, all of which are teeming with wildlife year-round.
Day 9 – Arusha/Depart: Game drive to the local airstrip for your flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Upon arrival, connect to your onward flight home.
