Itinerary
Day 1 – Arusha: On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be met and driven to Legendary Lodge. This classic haven boasts lush tropical gardens and is surrounded by a working coffee farm. The peaceful cottages are the perfect place to prepare for your safari. Overnight here in style to begin your Tanzania Luxury Safari.
Day 2 – Ngorongoro Conservation Area: After breakfast, you will head west towards Lake Manyara National Park. Enjoy a game drive and picnic lunch in the park, which is famous for its elephants, dense forest and other wildlife. The lake supports an incredible diversity of birds, particularly waterfowl, migrants and thousands of flamingos. In the late afternoon, continue on to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and enjoy your evening at leisure along the Crater rim. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. (B, L, D, Dr)
Between the spectacular views swirling through mists around the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge and its somewhat unexpected architecture, it is easy to believe that you have entered a realm of pure fantasy. Each stilted, handcrafted mud and thatch suite is adorned with graceful antiques. En suite bathrooms, with a centerpiece of fresh roses, feature huge showers and chandelier-lit bathtubs, while floor-to-ceiling windows ensure breathtaking views from everywhere. Personal butlers discreetly tend to guests’ every need, bringing tea in bed, stoking fireplaces and drawing luxurious baths. Each camp has its own guest sitting and dining areas and viewing decks.
Day 3 – Ngorongoro Crater: After breakfast, explore the 3 million-year-old Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact caldera in the world and home to more than 20,000 animals. Black rhinos are protected within its rim, giant tusked elephants wander the forest, black-maned lions stalk the grasslands, and flamingos crowd the soda lakes. Overnight at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. (B, L, D, Dr)
Day 4 – Ngorongoro: This morning of your Tanzania Luxury Safari involves a visit to the Olduvai Gorge, home to the Leakey family’s famous discoveries of ancient hominids and animals and known for the fantastic archaeological discoveries made by Doctor Louis and Mary Leakey, including the skull of a humanoid, which is believed to be 1.75 million years old. After lunch, continue exploring with a Maasai village visit and return in time for dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. (B, L, D, Dr)
Days 5, 6, & 7 – Serengeti/Singita Grumeti Reserve: After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your flight to the Singita Grumeti Reserve’s Sasakwa Lodge for lunch. Enjoy your afternoon at leisure by the pool, playing tennis, or head out on an afternoon game drive in the Grumeti Private Reserve. Experience another two full days exploring the Grumeti Private Reserve including off-road game drives and activities back at the lodge. Meals and overnights at Sasakwa Lodge. (B, L, D, Dr)
Singita Sasakwa Lodge is one of three lodges in the enormous Singita Grumeti Reserve, a private concession just outside Serengeti National Park. Sasakwa is built in the style of an Edwardian manor house. Stone walls, deep verandas, high ceilings, stately furniture, silverware, and ornamental pieces complete the picture. Each cottage has a private infinity-edge pool overlooking ‘where the land stretches to forever’. The four-poster beds are beautifully appointed, displaying African influences with touches of wood, leather, and grass, alongside crisp linens, imported chandeliers and hand-crafted furniture.
Day 8 – Arusha/Depart: Have breakfast, then transfer to the Singita Grumeti airstrip for your flight to Arusha where you’ll have lunch and the use of a day room at Legendary Lodge and later transfer to the airport for your flight home. (B, L)
